The film is based on a journalist called Raoul Duke who goes on a crazy and extreme drug adventure with his attorney Dr. Gonzo.
The poster portrates a blury and smudged image that displays a trippy and illusional image.
They've used this to get the look and the effect of the film, because the trippy looking image links with the film (effects of drugs). The glasses that are shown on the protagonist in the poster, also give a trippy effect because of the blurred effect in the lenses. This is shown as a speed looking effect, it has the effect of moving. This makes the poster trippy because the rest of the poster is looks still, it doesn't have a moving effect.
The poster also displays unusual black figures also known as sploggies in the poster. The black figures are known as bats in the poster, the bats are mentioned in the film which links with the poster again.
The font in the poster is displayed as a scary and fearing looking font. The font is kind of a squiguly written font. This is used to link with the title of the film, 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas'.
The poster also displays the protagonist in the film, but makes him weird looking because of the smudge effect. This also makes the film refer to being a comedy because of the blurred and smudged effect makes it funny looking. The protagonist also has a posed face that gives an effect that makes him look a little loopy, but at the same time looks amusing. The poster also gives the effect of drugs because
there's use of drugs in the poster, contains a cigaret.
The background also gives an idea of where the film takes place. The poster displays a background that has a thew cactuses in the background, that tells you that it's set in a desert terrain.
